We had a very restless night's sleep at Hotel en Restaurant de Maasparel. The hotel floors are wooden, so we can hear everything happening on the floor above our room. There aren't any noisy guests in the hotel, but still.
Fortunately, breakfast makes up for all that.
The coffee is excellent, and there's a choice of several types of fresh bread, a few
cheeses, and a few cold cuts and smoked salmon.
And of course, there's fruit, dairy, and more.
The breakfast room isn't crowded when we arrive around 8:30.
After dinner, we go for a walk.
We collect the necessary information from our room and walk to the start of the route, a
5-minute walk.
Via the floodplains of the Meuse River and the woods of the Arcen Estate, we finally arrive
at the Kasteeltuinen.
The weather has changed from cloudy to quite sunny along the way, a welcome improvement.
We also take a look around the Castle Gardens (for a fee) and have a snack there, the
sandwiches we brought with breakfast, and enjoy a beer and a glass of wine.
Back at the hotel, we reserve a table for dinner.
On the terrace, there's a large group of people who appear to be celebrating a birthday.
And then we wander around the center of Arcen, see where there's roadworks, and realize that
because of this, we can only walk along a small section of the boulevard along the Meuse
River, which is a shame.
We want to have a drink and look at Brasserie Alt Arce,
but there are no tables available where we can sit sheltered from the wind.
The next terrace is De Achtertuin, where we
find a spot on a beautiful covered terrace, sheltered from the wind, with a view of a garden
and the Meuse River.
The view is beautiful, the service is quick and, above all, friendly; this calls for more
than one visit.
For dinner, we can choose between a seat on the terrace or inside. We choose the terrace
because the heaters are burning there, making it nice and warm.
Tom orders a tournedos, and Pia a dish with various types of seafood.
The tournedos tastes great, as does the seafood, but Pia doesn't like the fish that comes
with it, not quite cooked through.
It's incredibly busy during dinner; both dining rooms inside are full, as are the terraces.
This is partly due to the birthday celebrations, but it's also noticeably busier in Arcen
than yesterday.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment,
there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood,
the weather and many other factors.
